Get creative and learn new skills at special classes for adults and teens led by our team of professional artists. You’ll have a chance to show off your creations or performance on the day of the parade and at the grand finale in Calder Holmes Park. No previous skills required.


Samba Drumming with Handmade Samba

Led by Mitch Oldham. No need to book, Just turn up. If you’re under 14, you’ll need an adult with you.  Suggested donation £3 per session

Please note beginners must attend all 6 sessions and improvers must attend all 4.

This year we won’t be offering to sell participants their stilts, but we can point you in the direction of someone who can make you a pair.

It is massively important, for Health and Safety reasons, that each participant has an adult with them for at least the first two sessions, and in the parade with them, as a spotter.

Parade Dance Ensemble with Gil Burns

Anyone of any age is welcome to come along and learn a fun and easy dance routine with dancer Gil Burns that they will perform in the parade, accompanied by The Handmade Samba Band.

You will also need to come to the open workshops to make your costume.

No need to book, just turn up to the sessions wearing loose clothing and trainers/comfy footwear and if you’re under 14 please bring an adult with you
