The Extraordinary Orchard Park, Hull City of Culture parade for local residents 

With all the focus on Hull city centre Handmade Parade collaborated with associate artists Hull Carnival Arts to create something Orchard Park estate would be proud of! During multiple residencies, workshops and commissions local residents all worked together and produced something truly Extraordinary !

After the parade one participant emotionally commented “I didn’t think these sorts of special things were for US!”

The celebrations continued in the local park and amazing, lasting memories were created.


Lancashire Encounters with Joe the Northern Giant 

Preston Council commissioned Handmade Parade to fully manage their lantern parade with 3 week long residencies across Lancaster in Preston, Blackpool and Burnley Youth Theatre to bring new and exciting skill’s to local people.

With a theme of Landscape participants created lanterns of puppet animals, cityscape suitcases and gorgeous headdresses depicting town landscapes. We even taught them performance skills and stilt walking for the Youth Theatre!

Rossington’s Grand Parade exploring the towns Past Present and Future

Handmade Parade artists created a parade with the community of Rossington which incorporated Coal mining, Transport and Future Landscape. Local school bands and a choir also  performed in the parade. Participants danced down the street in costumes they themselves had created in special workshops with Handmade Parade’s Giant Robot and a time machine commissioned by the wonderful Right Up Our Street. 


Skipton Puppet Festival’s Sea of Dreams (with giant sheep – it is Yorkshire!)

Skipton Puppet Festival hired us for 5 weeks to deliver workshops leading up to their dynamic parade in local venues as well as with a summer holiday club in August where our artists created giant puppets and costumes for their parade in Early October.
